HOW LONG SERVED ON THE COUNCIL:
I have joined the council this year, 2023.
BIT ABOUT YOURSELF IE: FAMILY, WORK, HOBBIES ETC:
I recently moved to Ashbourne with my partner Barbara. having considered many other town and villages as places to settle. We have two grown-up children.
I started as an analytical chemist but have spent most of my career as a data analyst, touching on linguistics and telephony along the way. Since retiring I have returned to natural history; my ambition is to see the area around Ashbourne properly recorded with more people getting actively involved. In practical terms this involved hedge restoration, scrub clearance and woodland management.
In contrast to the above I am passionate about the way a town has been built. The history of Ashbourne is the bricks and the alleyways, and I want to see Ashbourne sharing these with its visitors.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IE: SCHOOL GOVERNOR, OTHER COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT:
Since arriving in Ashbourne, I have been involved with Pride of Ashbourne and the U3A. I am an active volunteer with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE COMMUNITY:
I hope that I shall be able to work with my fellow councillors to get more community involvement and to have all groups working to a common goal of delivering a prosperous and thriving town. I want to work with the District council and also with neighbouring Parish councils to deliver a common approach to the relief road and to the airfield so that development is driven by the needs of the town.
