BIT ABOUT YOURSELF IE: FAMILY, WORK, HOBBIES ETC:
Originally from Worksop in Nottinghamshire, I moved to Ashbourne from the south of England with my partner in autumn 2023. We have two grown-up children. My background is in languages, teaching and translation and I have taught in secondary schools and colleges as well as translating for businesses. My hobbies include history, music, gardening, reading and keep-fit.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IE: SCHOOL GOVERNOR, OTHER COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT:
In the past I have been on committees of Parent Teacher Associations, both as a teacher and a parent. I also volunteered for many years as a Custody Visitor, checking on the welfare of people detained in police cells. In addition, I have run local family support groups for a national charity for some time.
Since coming to Ashbourne, I have been a regular volunteer at Parkrun and been involved with activities organised by Proud of Ashbourne.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE COMMUNITY:
I am keen to see all the hidden potential of this beautiful and interesting town being fulfilled. As an incomer, I believe that I am in a position to see very clearly many aspects of the town which could be exploited more fully for the benefit of both residents, workers and visitors. These include traffic control, safety for pedestrians, signage and creating pleasant places for people to meet in the town. My particular interest is young people and those who have no voice. Listening to them will be a priority for me.
